Originally hailing from Wellington city (Tu Meke Poneke!) Rafstar has been based in Queenstown for the last seven years.

Wanting to share his love of reggae and dancehall music with the masses he started dj-ing around 2002. Playing an array of Hip-Hop, Reggae & Dancehall at venues such as Tardis Bar and Subculture, hosting a regular reggae night at Dux-De-Lux and various events at most of the ski-fields and other bars between QT and Wanaka.

Rafstar hosted the Roots & Culture show on studio96.8 for two years and masterminded the
community orientated (free) outdoor "Reggae In The Gardens" event over the past 4 years.

Self confessing to be mixtape addict, his well sought after and awesomely constructed mixes can be downloaded from www.rebelbassnz.com. Recently he has been moving more into the production arena.Modestly admitting slightly amateur sounding at this stage he is just happy to mess about with sounds and structures in a not so serious style!. He has lately been working with a few Jamaican vocalists and is building up a serious selection of dubplates by artists such a Shinehead, Johnny Osbourne, Lil Hero, Alborosie, Louie Culture to mention just a few. This recent addiction to fresh duplate riddims has been consuming his spare time [and money!] - although in order to hear these custom made specials you will have to go check out the mighty Rebel Bass next time hes playing in the area!
